For me, no question, it's:
Coincidentally, I did an article a few years ago on what who would be on the Ultimate SNL Cast: http://www.badmouth.net/ultimate-saturd ... live-cast/

Having not seen many of the cast, I simply can't list a favorite. There are many who had a hilarious character or two, but there wasn't anyone with enough draw to keep me coming back to my tv for more every week.
I'd love to see a 4 hr special of "The Best Skits Ever" or something like that....but I likely won't ever put the show on my (poor-man's) tivo. I think most of my favorite skits have been the fake commercials.
I think the cast member that's created the most annoying character has to be Molly Shannon.

I think SNL is the same. You watch for the 40% of greatness, rehearsed around the clock for a week, and then aired live where anything can happen.
I am amazed at how many great films have been created by former cast members of Saturday Night Live. Truly amazing talented people.
