Hello 2

Postby Rouver » Sat Aug 15, 2009 11:55 am

Got nothin, just wanted to make a bit of noise

Well, there's GenCon this weekend. Decided to go on Sun since it's cheaper. Had a friend over & played Arkham Horror. Great game...co-operative play. We'd like to buy it, but it requires people that play complex games. Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of those. Might have to buy it anyway. Planning on taking a look at Agricola & try to see a demo. It's gotten some really good reviews. Sun is the slow day, so we might not have a very successful time 'freak watching'. Ah well.
We're fine. We're all fine here...now...thank you. How are you?

I don't know what you're talking about, but Arkham Horror is a Lovecraft thing and "agricola" is Latin for "farmer." Sun is my people's name for the star our planet orbits.

Arkham Horror is a co-operative board game based in Lovecraft's world. Players try to kill the creatures that emerge from portals opening around the city. If too many portals open, the Great One is summoned & the players have to fight him. We've played it twice so far (against the easiest Great One) & won both times. We've enjoyed the game. I'd recommend it.

Agricola is another board game...based on farming. :) We haven't played it yet, but went ahead & bought it. It's won several 'best of' awards & has only been out for a couple of years.

Met up w/ some friends, bought those two games as well as The Dungeon expansion for Talisman. I was skeptical about adding on to the game, but I really liked the expansion....not sure if that's based mostly on the fact that I utterly crushed my opponents or not.

We only went on Sun (runs from Thurs-Sun) but we managed to stay up until 2 am on 3 nights in a row gaming w/ friends anyway. We geeked it up, but managed to be showered.
We're fine. We're all fine here...now...thank you. How are you?

An excellent series!!!!

This is the best Science-Fiction series I know! There are 178 episodes
and nearly all of them you can watch several times. In contrast to the
original Star Trek this series is more ambitious and not about
senseless fights á la Kirk. My favorite episodes are:Where No One Has
Gone Before, Conspiracy, Where Silence Has Lease, Time Squared,
Allegiance, The Best of Both Worlds, Remember Me, Future Imperfect, The
Inner Light, Time's Arrow, Schisms, Frame of Mind, Parallels and All
Good Things. Most of them are very exciting, thrilling and also funny.
Different episodes have different themes. The episode "The Game" for
example deals with addiction or "Where Silence Has Lease" deals with
death. These episodes are very interesting and very worth watching. Not
every episode is very good and interesting like "Masks" or "Shades of
Grey" but despite of them this series is excellent and many actors
became well-known after playing in this series.

Made sci-fi what it is today

I watched the adventures of Kirk, Spock, Bones and the rest of the
Enterprise crew and was impressed; The Original Series influenced my
way of thinking, what I said, how I acted (mind you, I was only seven
years old at the time!) Best episodes: The Doomsday Machine, Let this
be your last Battlefield, The City on the Edge of Forever, The Deadly
Years (Chekov complaining), The Naked Time(Sulu defending Uhura with a
fencing foil), Mirror, Mirror (Uhura pulling a dagger on Sulu and
strutting off the bridge!)

After the show was canceled, a few years later The Animated Series
premiered and though it was cheap animation, I feel it was more true to
TOS because it had the exact same thing going for it: cheap production,
good and great storytelling. I consider this the last two years of the
five-year mission.

The release of Star Wars in theaters and the premiere of Battlestar
Galactica on TV showed Paramount that there was a market for sci-fi.
Luckily, Gene Roddenberry was trying to get on the air what everybody
really wanted-More Star Trek. In 1987, his and our wishes came true.

I agree with everyone else; the first two seasons the show crawled like
a newborn baby. But when that infant hood was over ("The Best of Both
Worlds, Parts 1 & 2" and "Family") the potential for greatness started
to show. And it got better every year after that. Although, with one
exception (The Inner Light), TNG did'nt get any industry awards for
dramatic performances, it was technically the best show on television,
and brought a whole new generation of people into the Star Trek
universe. Some of the people who wrote their reviews said that the show
is starting to get dated. BULL! TNG, like its big brother, stands the
test of time! Topical stories shrouded within great stories! Character
development! Great acting (at least, better than average!)

And then, the studio started expanding the Trek universe by making
shows with leading characters that have the diversity and intelligence
that the Federation embodies: Deep Space Nine (set on a space station
and having a African-American commander/captain), Voyager (with a
female captain) and now, Enterprise (Star Trek:The Prequel)

Best of DS9:Everything except "Take me out to the Holosuite" Best of
VOY:"The Killing Game, Parts 1 & 2", "Scorpion, Parts 1 & 2"
"Endgame-The Series Finale, Parts 1 & 2" Best of ENT: as of this
writing, All of the Delphic Expance/Xindi War storyline.

Do I have to mention the ten feature films (maybe more!)

Best of the Films: as of this writing: The Motion Picture, The Wrath of
Khan, The Voyage Home, The Undiscovered Country, Generations, First
Contact and Nemesis

If a snowball is thrown against a wall, it will break up; cease to
exist as it was made to be. When a snowball rolls down a long, snowy
hill, it grows larger and larger and faster until it rolls down with so
much power, it takes on a life of its own. That is TNG; slowly building
itself into the standard by which all science fiction shows measure
themselves.
